Install Your NPIdentify Desktop Update (or Additional States)
Leave this window open
until you've completed your installation.

1. Select Your Product Update. You can install one or as many states as you like. Be sure you have selected the right directory for the state you want, then click the Add to Cart Button. Then in the cart window you'll see your order. If you want to add more products to your cart, click the Continue Shopping Button. When you are ready to checkout, click the Checkout Button.

2. Login and Checkout. If you have already established a login at our online store, login using the email address and password you gave when you made your first purchase or free download, in the Returning Customers box. If you have not yet established your account, click the Sign Up Button in the New Customers box.

NOTE: If you have forgotten your password, click the "Forgot your password?" link on the login page and your password will be emailed to you.

3. Confirm your order. Now you will see the payment options page where you can choose to use to pay by credit card or PayPal account, or by mailing a check. Select your payment preference. If you select Mail a Check, we will send you a download link after we receive your check. If you elect to pay by credit card or PayPal account, you will be taken to the PayPal processing screens. Be sure to click the "Return to Merchant" link after completing the payment process or you will not proceed to the download page. After payment you will be taken to a page with a Download Button like this example:

4. Download and Install. Click the download button, and when the download dialog pops up, select Save (not Open), and save the file to any temporary folder on your computer.

When the download has completed, double-click on the downloaded Zip file to open it, and extract the contents into the same or any other temporary folder. Click the Start button in the task bar and select Run. In the Run window, browse to the folder where you extracted the contents, select setup.exe, and click OK to begin installation.

TIP: To avoid your download timing out (failing to complete, or it "expires"), be sure you are: 1) Using a broadband internet connection, and 2) Not trying to download while your computer or your internet connection is busy doing something else, like watching videos, downloading Outlook email, etc. If you experience any problem with downloading and extracting the file, simply start the download again by logging in to your account at the NPIdentify Store, selecting the order by clicking the View button, then clicking the download button again. You are permitted multiple download attempts.

5. Follow the Installation Wizard.

Depending on your computer's configuration, you may need to remove the old version of your state directory before the update can be installed. After you run setup.exe and begin the installation, you may be given an option to Change or Remove NPIdentify Desktop; if so, choose Remove. Then run setup.exe again to install the update.

If you have installed the update, but the old data is still in the application, i.e., a previous month's date appears in the NPIdentify Desktop window, you did not remove the old version. You need only run setup.exe again to perform the Remove function, and then once more to perform the installation. Alternatively, you can first uninstall the old version by using your computer's Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs utility, and then install the update.

After the Installation Wizard is finished, open NPIdentify Desktop to be check that the updated version has installed correctly. If the date in the NPIdentify Desktop window (just below the NPIdentify logo) shows the date of the current NPPES data update (January 23, 2012 ) you have successfully updated NPIdentify Desktop. If it shows an earlier date instead, refer to the paragraph above.
